As a poet I draw inspiration for poetry whenever I find myself in a space of empathy and raw emotion. The expression of these emotions often come to me as poetry but like most things poetry is an exaggeration of events, feelings and experiences. The below poem I wrote a while ago based on a combination of events, experiences and love stories around me. I often like creating a space where love and pain can come together to form healing. Both are equally powerful and equally sacred; but our perceptions of both is very different. Love, we constantly seek and pain we constantly avoid. Yet they are two sides of the same coin! Ironic isn’t it, that to get to a space of love that is infinite you need to go through some really uncomfortable experiences that often we describe as painful. But, pain is not some evil experience – pain is the price we pay to grow vaster and brighter than before.
The below poem I want to dedicate to anyone that has been told that they are unworthy, anyone who has felt like they’re not good enough or anyone that has been through a really painful relationship. You are full of infinite love, compassion and joy – seek that space within you. Behind all the curtains of the ego lies a safe space that you will find your bliss.
My dear, you just want to be loved,
You’ve been bruised and battered,
Through the bitterness of those around you,
You think that you are not enough,
But you are the essence of love,
You are an overflowing waterfall of kindness,
You are a soul that is timeless,
My precious heart, your vast soul and your bright light,
Can’t be dimmed in the dark night,
I know you try really hard to fit in,
To please those around you, hoping you’ll win
Their love and affection,
Their respect and attention,
But you can’t help that sometimes you can’t keep up,
You’ve just been given an unfair start,
My darling, how frustrating it must be,
To be as beautiful and vast as you are,
Yet belittled and betrayed by those you loved,
They blocked your light, because they didn’t understand
That all they needed to do was to hold your hand,
To guide you through the unknown land,
To help you see that you’re a great man,
You’ve been mistreated for so long,
That even you have forgotten where you are from,
You’ve been used for others ploy,
It’s time you make space for your own joy,
Although I can’t undo what has been done,
I will promise to do no wrong,
Sweet soul, in this safe space,
We no longer have to compete in a race,
We will get through the ups and downs,
And I will throw you a line so that you don’t drown
Amongst the narratives of your own pain,
I will hold your hand and help you reign,
Over your infinite light and infinite joy,
Never forget that you’re worthy,
You don’t need anyone’s approval or a golden trophy,
My Darling, though we don’t know what the future holds,
Today we can celebrate your heart of gold,
So that tomorrow you can preserve the light on your own
For no matter where you are and who you’re with,
You can tap into love any time you wish,
So I will leave you with this final gift,
You will find all the answers, deep within.
