Bushfires…

Coming back to Australia to see the reality of the bushfires has been such a heart breaking experience. Whilst we may be used to bush fires as a nation, what is currently happening New South Wales is nothing short of what you see in doomsday movies. It’s incredibly heart breaking to know so many vulnerable animals have burned in the fires, not to mention the lives and livelihoods that have also been lost.

The brave men and women who are fighting these fires on behalf of us deserve all the praise, recognition and gratitude that is humanly possible because they are exposing themselves to threats and dangers that most would run away from.

The smoke has been incredibly bad and I don’t even want to think of the damage it is causing to us all who are inhaling it – even when we don’t leave the house and stay indoors. It’s everywhere and there is no running from it. The other day, the below poem came to me as I was in total shock from what was unfolding in front of me. I feel as thought the impacts of climate change are becoming worse and worse and I just don’t understand why governments and businesses aren’t willing to put their greed aside and do the humane thing! This is dedicated to all the politicians and business people who have ignored the please and the attempts of the public and of other organisations who want to make the change but can’t seem to breakthrough the powers that be.

Inhale the smoke, let it take over your lungs

This is the outcome of what we’ve become

The fires are just reminders of the neglect we have made

Towards mother nature who embraced us all with grace

Take, take, take that’s all we do;

What good are we humans, we are all doomed

Earth deserved more love, more care, more trust

But we’ve made fire with our touch

Some of us feel sad, some of us care

But where is the rest of humanity when we’re in despair?

Inhale the smoke, let it set in;

This is the world we now live in

Mother earth sends no rain to give us relief

She’s done with our ways and beliefs

She no longer cares if we live or die

She only wants her own heart to survive

Inhale the smoke, don’t cough it up

I hope you’re happy with what you’ve become

I pray for mother earth and her forgiveness.

Miss Dreamer
