Thank you Self…

I find it difficult to celebrate myself. To highlight my achievements and to acknowledge my strengths. I think this is rooted in the perfectionist mind where nothing is good enough and therefore, I am not considering myself worthy of praise.

But I know these are all thinking errors that are not serving me well, that they don’t result in my expansion, rather they contract me into a small version of myself. There is no external hero that will arrive and lift me up. That hero is always within ourselves and if we don’t give them the opportunity to come alive, we will always live a life that is not enabling us to flourish.

I want to bring that hero out, I have to actively go against my current mindset and beliefs so that I can celebrate myself more comfortably and openly.

Poems are the best way to start for me, so this is a poem dedicate to mySELF. I hope it helps you celebrate yourSELF too.

Thank you for trying,

For always putting one foot in front of the other,

Despite the challenges, the hardships and the failures.

Thank you for growing,

Into a complex, colourful and beautiful existence,

Into a version that is unimaginable and yet so clear.

Thank you for the love,

That you are now practicing to extend to yourself,

That you recognise as a right and not as a luxury.

Thank you for your grace,

For not belittling others through your experiences,

For being kind and compassionate as you navigate the waters.

Thank you for the courage,

That you’ve displayed throughout the years,

That you have tapped into in the face of fear.

Thank you for the flaws,

That remind you daily of what real beauty is,

Not perfection but raw and pure authenticity.

Thank you for the forgiveness,

For recognising that you are prone to mistakes,

For understanding that they don’t define you, but instead, expand you.

Thank you for the stubborn streak,

Yes it has it’s down sides, but it has it’s strengths too,

If not for your stubborn nature, you wouldn’t have fought so hard.

Thank you my dear self,

For all the years of perseverance, through the pain, the rain and the discomforts.

For getting us this far, for remaining strong.
