Paying attention…

What matters most to us? What is it that we work towards every day and through everything?

I haven’t lived a very deliberate life, I have mainly gone with the flow of whatever has presented itself to me. I made an assumption that going with the flow will keep me open to opportunities and help me live a free-spirited life. But in reality, it has resulted in me swaying in directions that were chosen for me, placed upon me and or most pragmatic for me.

That’s ok, we live and we learn – there is no point in punishing my past self, she was young, she was going through a lot and she did her best; most importantly her best was ENOUGH! It just isn’t the type of path that I would like to go down now. I want to be more deliberate about my time, my health, my choices, my connections and my days.

Being deliberate doesn’t have to mean that you are highly organised, structured or always in control. For me, being deliberate is equivalent to being aligned to values and an overall purpose and direction in life that is authentic, true and beautiful. One that is designed by you, for you. One that is going to bring you the peace and joy you are seeking because it doesn’t demand you to conform or change into someone you’re not. One that is accepting of you and your talents, not one that is diminishing your light and sparkle.

Being deliberate requires precision, care, thoughtfulness and most of all attention. Where we place our attention at every moment can completely shift our experiences. I have observed that a lot of my attention is taken away by worrisome thoughts or external events that are pulling me into various directions. I don’t often choose where to place my attention that is, I am not focusing on what is aligned to my values, rather I am focusing on what is in front of me and expected of me. Often these expectations are self-set, but they’re not really what I want inherently, they’re just what I have learned to deliver on.

I would like to work on this, I would like to be more calm and slow paced so that I can place my attention on the values that bring me the most joy and peace. Values that help express my authentic self in the most beautiful way.

What are your values? What are you paying attention to?

Love Always,

M
