Floating…

I love writing poetry, I find it such a beautiful outlet of all the various emotions that I harbour inside. As a poet, I have a sense of deep respect for emotions and I love expressing them through exaggerated yet very real and honest words. Often if the poem is deep and or dark, a lot of people perceive the poet themselves to be in a difficult or dark space. But in my experience, the art of poetry is that you can tap into the depths of human emotion and experience without getting trapped into them. So you take yourself and your readers on a journey to the depths of our common and often shared experiences, whilst also guiding them back out to the reality in which they live.

The below, is a poem that I truly love and adore, which came to me on the back of my poem called Determined. I hope it resonates with readers.

Floating:

I don’t care if we’re lost,

With you I’m home.

But as the sky starts falling,

And the waves turn into rips,

I watch you drift away from my grip,

I try to hold on but I know I have to let go,

That’s the only chance our love could grow.

I start to panic, I start to fear,

The day you disappear feels far too near,

So I sing a song, I say a prayer,

I look deep into the mirror,

I ask myself the hardest truth,

Do I love me, or do I love you?

Whatever the response, it won’t be true,

There was never a divide between me and you.

Though it pains me to sit and wait,

I have no control over fate,

The time will come one day soon,

For us to reunite under a full moon.

Love Always,

M
