Filling the cup…

How you spend your time and who you spend it with is so important. Paying attention to what energises you and what drains you, who helps elevate you and who brings you down. These are all data points that can help you make better choices on a daily basis. The most important of all is how you talk to yourself and what narratives you let run wild in your head. We have so much power that we take for granted on a daily basis and once you start realising that there is so much that you can choose, it can help balance out the sense of uncertainty you feel when faced with adversity and ambiguity.

There is a lot that is out of my control at the moment, a lot that is not going to ‘plan’. At first I felt a sense of frustration and demotivation but then I asked myself an important question which was, you’ve been here before, so how can you handle it differently? In the past I would surrender to the demotivation or the weight of the feelings that would flood over me. I would obsess over the thoughts that would make me feel worse and lose perspective of the things that were still beautiful.

So, today I decided to let go of the expectations I had of myself and instead go with what energises me, that includes listening to some upbeat music and spending time writing, which is such a creative and reflective practice for me. I also reached out to dear friends that I’ve not had a chance to check in on and called a few people that I rarely speak to but whom energise me. I recognise that I’m still a little grumpy because I feel tired, but instead of feeling defeated and letting the crankiness take over I’m going to pay attention to what my body needs which is a nice shower, light yoga and a nap.

These little decisions make a difference. Yes they’re little choices, but they’re mine which feeds into my value of independence and freedom.

A year ago, I wouldn’t have been able to identify the small daily needs that would help enhance my energy and uplift my mood. But I’ve been paying attention to how I feel a little bit more over the last 12 months and as a result of trial and error I am learning more about what fills my cup. Every day is the opportunity for me to learn more about who I want to be and how I want to be instead of who I’ve learned to become and what I’ve been taught to believe.

Knowing that you have the power of choice is enough to completely shift your perspective and therefore the quality of your experiences. Trial and error, that’s the only way one can learn.

Pay attention to yourself and what brings the most out of you. Be kind to yourself as you grow and evolve, knowing that you are doing the best you can at any point and that every experience is a learning experience in your Soul Journey.

What new thing have you learned about yourself lately?

Love Always,

M
