Full cup…

Take the pressure off, the expectations you set on yourself for success, for doing things right, for being good, for being the best of you. Take the pressure off, take a step back and hold yourself in patience and love. This being human is messy and turbulent. We each have our own individual experience with it too, one that is vastly different both in nature and nurture. We don’t all have the same predisposition to mental health or physical well being, we all have different personalities, traits and characteristics. We are all brought up in different cultures, different environments, different communities and families.

Accepting the differences and acknowledging that despite it all we are all equal and from the same place, that’s where we can gain both respect and compassion towards ourselves and others. Some people will be able to get through adversity with ease, others may not. Some people can get up in the morning with a spring in their steps and a smile on their face, others will struggle to crawl out and sheer fact that they do is a big victory for that day.

We are different, we have different needs. What do you need? What will fill your cup and help you stay full? I am constantly testing the answer to these questions for myself. The answer to these questions can change too, because depending on the day and or the events, you may need different things. Today I woke up feeling all sorts of disappointed, sadness, loss, uncertainty, demotivation and hopelessness. If I take a step back and reflect on all the things that are draining my cup, I can understand why I’m feeling this way.

Judging myself for not doing better, not being better, not feeling better is not going to help me find peace or joy. I’m going to lose more moments to judgements and worries which are not there to serve me. So, I have a choice of staying on this path of self-misery or I can pivot and focus on the little things that I can control or influence which will fill my cup. Small things are enough, for me that’s writing, journalling, prayer, yoga and just some nice music where I can be still with my thoughts and feelings.

Some days the smallest things are enough. Some days, just getting through all the heaviness without falling is the best that we can do and that on it’s own is more than enough, that is amazing effort.

Be kind to yourself.

Love Always,

M
