With a new year ahead I am hoping to shift my energy and focus onto experiences and things that will enable further healing and openness on my journey. Reflecting back on all the obstacles from last year, I am relieved to have gotten through them but I now have the wisdom to realise that in life there will always be obstacles.
At first this thought was daunting, but then I realised that obstacles are only as hard as you make them. Yes they pose a certain level of challenge but you get to choose if you whinge or you have fun tackling them. That choice is solely dependent on the attitude you decide to apply to the situation. But selecting the right attitude requires a lot of deliberate practice and effort. This is where I need to do a lot of relearning and unlearning in order to form the mental fitness that is needed to move forward in my life the way that I would like to, as opposed to the way I’ve been conditioned.
We all have the ability to train our thoughts and rewire our brains, but the process is so unpleasant and hard that we often prefer giving up. Anyone that does stick through it, will know that it is so worth all the hard work and effort. Because eventually you do reach a point where you realise that all the hardships were a part of the process and if you don’t resist them, you can go through the motions with more ease and possibly even joy.
With a new year ahead, I can’t anticipate what will happen and I can’t control what doors will open or close for me. But I am going to stay committed to the Soul Journey and the evolution as part of this chapter of my life. I’m going to find ways to let go of the thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve me. Being resentful, bitter, angry and or stubborn with the experiences I’ve already had will not get rid of them. But challenging them and questioning whether or not I still need them around will.
It’s like cleaning out your wardrobe, you may find some outfits that at some point meant a lot to you and you’ve made great memories in them, but they no longer fit you nor do they express how you want to present yourself to the world. If you keep the outfit you’re just clogging up your wardrobe, but if you give it away then you are creating space for a more relevant outfit. It’s the same with our thoughts, memories and experiences. We can choose to replay the same thought pattern over and over again, or we can choose to override it with new thoughts, beliefs and habits. The only difference is that cleaning out your closet is a very easy linear process, cleaning out your mind is a complex, tangled up and hard exercise that you have to commit to for a very long time.
Observation and habit formation are the key and like everything else in life, it’s about progress not perfection so it’s important that I am kind and patient with myself on this journey.
Love Always,
M
