Contrary to what I used to believe, joy is all around us. We are constantly in it, but it is hard to recognise it when you’re not present enough to notice what you are gifted with. Life throws adversity and challenges our way and it is normal to see them as obstacles but what if we were to see them as the windows that allow the light to come in?
In order to notice it, you have to go through it. You have to face the resistance, the doubt, the struggle, loss and hardship. When you are ready all you have to do is to look up and around you, there you can find joy waiting for you. It never left, it was just harder to see. Similar to the sun that hides behind the clouds on a rainy day.
For joy to have meaning there needs to be sadness. Sadness is just as holy as joy, but its purpose is different. Sadness is the key that unveils our ego and takes us deeper. It shows us what we value and what we need. It is a teacher that is trying to honour what we love and lost. Suffering occurs when our ego can’t let go of the sadness, that is where we lose touch with joy. We get lost both within and without and that is a dangerous place to be, the ego thrives in the darkness and in the chains it creates for us.
As I sit here on the park bench this morning I reflect on how simple it is, being in joy just requires us to be here. When you accept that experiences can occur in parallel you can open your heart to both joy and sadness. You can reach out and recharge the light in your heart, even when it feels like everything is dark.
All of us are on our own Soul Journey, all of us have our own lessons to learn. Whatever your lesson is, I hope you also come to realise that you are living in joy and that through acceptance and letting go, you can tap into it.
Love Always,
M
