Reclaiming the moment..

Pay attention to the moments of your life, they pass incredibly quickly. What are you seeking? What do are you investing your thoughts, energy and time into? There is so much pain, loss, stress and grief around us. The world is going through so much pain and it’s hard to not drown in it all, in particular when you feel things deeply. It is possible to recognise the injustices, the concerns and the alarms without losing perspective of the blessings that we have going on.

There is war, climate change, economic crisis an ongoing pandemic and so much hatred, isolation and injustice in this world. How can we find joy? Is it right to even look for joy? Many confuse distractions with joy, but joy is a much deeper experience that doesn’t require anything external rather internal focus and attention.

It’s about being present in the moment that you’re in, it’s about being connected to yourself and those around you. It’s about knowing what to hold onto and what to let go of. Joy requires acceptance and that can be hard to achieve if you’re not aware of the thoughts that aren’t serving you. The only way to go through life and to do positive things, is to retain a perspective that isn’t tainted by fear and skepticism. If you want to make a difference you need to have hope, trust, faith and optimism, all of which can only be attained if you remain focused on what you’re thinking.

I have lost so much of my perspective over the past few months, I’m still trying to climb out of the critical mindset that has been beating me up and resulted in poor choices. I have come to realise that when I can play the ‘victim card’ in my head I allow myself to get away with procrastination and unhelpful behaviours that disable me from climbing out of the past and into the present. If I’m not stuck in the past, wallowing over what has been, I’m travelling into the future worrying about every minor detail that I can’t control.

I’m sure I’m not alone, we all have our own hangups and issues. Very few are capable of being present with who they are and what is going on right in front of them. When you find yourself in the present moment you can let go of the toxic thoughts that put you down. You’re focused on the beauty, the gratitude, the aliveness that is here with you right now. Being present doesn’t mean you let go of planning or reminiscing, it just allows you to do it from a healthy place and for the right reasons. From there you can leap into the future with inspiration and energy and step into the past with compassion and forgiveness. The key to unlock all this lies in the here and now, find that moment and embrace it with arms wide open for that’s where the healing lies.

Love Always,

M
