Pause and Be…

Take a pause and take an inventory of your life.

Reflect on where you are and how far you’ve travelled.

Don’t try to rush to get from here to there, if you’re too busy chasing the future you will miss the moments that are beautiful right now.

There is no way that you can wish today gone without letting go of both the good and the bad. It struck me today that my anticipation for the future has made me blind to the present. I’ve always conceptually understood this and know the importance of being present, but it wasn’t until I realised that by wishing for a future that resolves one ‘problem’ I am wishing away blessings from the present that are waiting for me to notice them. For example, I’m currently awaiting the day to reunite with my partner and live with him again, that desire and distraction is so strong that it is making me blind to the blessings that are in front of me right now waiting for me to enjoy them.

Take a pause so you can meet yourself. Who are you now after all that you’ve been through? What is true today that wasn’t yesterday? What are you finding joy in and how are you celebrating your life?

This world is full of reasons to be upset, hurt, worried, stressed etc. and when you only focus your attention on the dark and the ugly you forget what it’s like to even notice the good and beauty. Even on your healing path you can forget what the purpose of the journey was if you’re not aware and present enough to notice the strides you’re making.

Take a pause, it’s time to rest and really sit in the stillness.

You don’t have to give yourself away to everything all the time. Not even to your own dreams and goals, they’re just desires that you’ve crafted based on needs you may or may not understand.

When you pause you recognise that life has nothing to do with doing but with being. At the core of everything we do, even the things we achieve, we are searching for a moment of being. That sense of gratification, acceptance, relief etc. We rarely realise that state of being that we’re aiming for is always within us, we just don’t know how to access in any other way except through doing.

I need to clarify that being isn’t the opposite of doing; in that it’s not the absence of doing. Being is about consciously going through life and experiencing it from a place of beauty, presence, stillness, peace and love. It’s when you problem solve for something without being attached to the result, it’s about applying for a job without worrying about your sense-of self-worth being defined by it. It’s about being in a relationship, without putting all your expectations on someone else. It’s about going to bed at night loving yourself with beautiful, kind, compassionate thoughts and not the critical mind that is determined to put you in misery.

To Be you need to detach yourself from the things you desire and the stories that you tell. It’s going through life with a sense of observation, appreciation and surrender. It’s hard to achieve and maintain but it’s worth it because in that state you truly understand what life is about.

Search for it and you will find it.

Love Always,

M
