Questions…

Learning about history can be so powerful, where did we come from? What has happened in the past for today to be as it is? How has humanity evolved or regressed? What concepts have changed and which ones have been born? It’s easy to forget about our histories in our modern, fast paced, technologically enabled lives. Who were our ancestors? Do I come from a lineage of those who did good or those who did not? What trauma am I carrying in my genes and what influences are in my veins that I’m not even aware of?

When you pause to reflect about life, who we are, the world, the context, our lives, the good, the bad and the in between it dawns on you that there is only one thing that has never changed and that is a constant across time, cultures and history and that is breath. Without it there is no life, without it there would be no past, no present and no future. Our whole existence relies on it and yet we seldom pause to think about it.

It’s the most powerful tool we have to bring us into our bodies and back to the present moment. When you spend time with your breath, you connect with your body and can slow down your mind; tapping into a sense of humility, stillness and awareness that reminds you of how small you are in space and time. Despite being small, we are all important and significant because we are all part of something greater that we don’t understand and may never come to logically connect with.

Therein lies the journey of exploring the question of ‘who am I’? A question that humanity has been pondering on since the dawn of time and one that we may never find the answer to. Coming back to the breath, we can try and gain a glimpse of our full selves, we will get closer and closer to that by understanding all that we are not.

In those moments, if we are lucky, we can tap into a level of knowing that is beyond the intelligence of our minds. It takes practice, dedication and observation but it is possible to connect with our true Selves.

I suppose when you’re in that state, it doesn’t really matter where you come from, or where you’re going but that you are able to stay where you are.

Where are you now?

What about now?

And now?

Now?

..

Love Always,

M
