Climbing mountains with baby steps…

As the year starts to draw to an end I can’t help but reflect on what has been and also dream up what is awaiting ahead. It is so important to take the time out to slow down your breath, become present with your body and allow yourself to reflect. For me reflection is how I become aware of my growth, wins and areas that require more love and care. It’s like doing a spring clean of your mind so that you can place your attention in all the right places.

So, as I reflect on the year that has been I can see that there has been so much growth and change; that I finally seem to be reaping the benefits of all the hard work I have been putting in over the past few years. Whether it’s with my career in HR, my Coaching endeavours, building on Souloom or working on my mental health, I can see progress and so it’s important that I give myself permission to enjoy this sense of achievement.

For me this achievement isn’t tied to material outcomes, rather, it’s related to my personal success factors of:

  • Developing self-assurance in my HR career and recognising my strengths and passions
  • Taking the first steps towards doing values aligned work by investing in myself and placing faith in my abilities. This required a lot of personal growth which was not always easy
  • Building on Souloom with my blogs, branding and expanding into social media channels, all of which are steps outside of my comfort zone and experience.
  • Improving on my mental health by doing the hard work with making life style changes, building new habits, doing therapy, working with coaches and learning through philosophy

These are the wins that matter to me and they’ve been made possible by the micro-steps that I’ve taken over the past few years. I’m grateful to my past ‘selves’ for putting up with all the challenges, hardships, disappointments, rejection, self-doubt and personal struggles and yet never quitting.

It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress. So take your first step, no matter how small it is because I promise you that if you take enough of those small steps you will one day look back and realise you’ve managed to climb your own mountain!

Love Always,

M
