For what it’s worth…

Sometimes we go through experiences that we wish were different; but when life deals you a set of cards, you have to learn to play your best game with them. It’s not about losing, or winning it’s just about doing what you can do. There are many aspects of my past that I wish had unfolded differently, but I also recognise that had I not experienced what I did, I would not have the compassionate heart that I have now.

As I sit here reflecting on how far I’ve come, I can clearly see that I am stopping the generational and societal trauma that has been passed down to me. I will no longer carry that weight and I will also forgive my younger selves for making decisions under the influence of such pain.

The below poem for me represents the challenge of life, the darker side of it, the parts that guilt creeps in. But it also represents the fight, the perseverance and the resilience that comes with this journey. What I love about this poem, is the subtle difference in the felt experience you have when you read it from top down and then bottom up. I hope this piece is able to help cultivate a sense of connection and relatedness with readers out there. Remember that your guilt and pain is not you.

For what it’s worth:

For what it’s worth, life is good,

You just need to let go of the things that make you blue,

For what it’s worth, you tried,

You got up and moved on after all the tears you cried,

For what it’s worth, you did well,

You have grown so much, I can tell,

For what it’s worth, you were right,

It was worth putting up a fight,

For what it’s worth, the night is young,

Don’t forget that you’re bold and strong,

For what it’s worth, it was fun,

Even if now you’re on the run,

For what it’s worth, it didn’t mean anything,

That’s what you say when you’re losing everything,

For what it’s worth, the sun is out,

Cover your ears, so you don’t have to hear him shout,

For what it’s worth, we all lose,

Next time you have to be careful with what you choose,

For what it’s worth, time heals the pain,

Let your hair down and dance in the rain,

For what it’s worth, you got through,

It pains me to have to hide the truth,

For what it’s worth, I apologise,

For all the deceit and all the lies,

For what it’s worth, he didn’t know better,

You can read it yourself in his final letter,

For what it’s worth, life is short,

Never underestimate your worth,

For what it’s worth, I wish I could turn back time,

I would have found you and given you a sign,

For what it’s worth…

For what it’s…

For what…

For..

….

Love Always,

M
